In light of the success of last year’s event, we are organizing a
second edition of our Ph.D. Days with a broadened focus on the
Central Africa region. Opportunities for research in DRC and the
wider region of Central Africa are expanding in Belgium and
around the world. We feel it is important to continue to generate
interdisciplinary dialogue among the various disciplines, which
each have their own canon and research traditions.
This two-day PhD meeting will have three objectives: (1) to
identify and make visible doctoral research in progress; (2) to
connect younger colleagues; and (3) to break down disciplinary
or institutional boundaries. If you are a PhD. candidate in any
SSH discipline (social sciences and humanities) working on DRC
or another Central African country, we invite you to present a
paper based on a specific aspect of your research. You will get
feedback from peers and senior scholars.
Attending the PhD. Days is free, but please register here by
March 1, 2020. Candidates will be notified of acceptance and
asked to confirm attendance by mid-March. Full papers are
expected by May 15. You act as both presenter (10’) and
discussant (10’). Presentations and discussion may be in English
or French. If candidates wish to propose a panel (2-3 papers per
panel), please send your title, proposal, and abstracts to

Journées doctorales sur l’Afrique centrale

Vu le succès de l’événement de l’année dernière, nous
organisons une deuxième édition nos Journées doctorales sur le
thème élargi de l’Afrique centrale. Les opportunités de recherche
en RDC et dans la région abondent en Belgique et ailleurs. Nous
pensons qu’il est important de continuer à établir un dialogue
entre les différentes disciplines, dont chacune a, certes, sa propre
épistémologie de recherche, mais qui peuvent s’enrichir
mutuellement.
Cette rencontre sur deux jours aura trois objectifs : (1) identifier
et visibiliser les recherches doctorales en cours ; (2) établir des
connexions entre jeunes chercheurs ; et (3) rompre les barrières
disciplinaires et institutionnelles. Si vous êtes doctorant.e en
sciences humaines ou sociales (SHS) travaillant sur la RDC ou
un autre pays de la région de l’Afrique centrale, nous vous
invitons à présenter une communication sur un aspect spécifique
de votre recherche. Vous recevrez des retours de la part d’autres
doctorant.e.s et de chercheurs confirmé.e.s.
La participation aux Journées doctorales est gratuite. Merci de
vous inscrire ici avant le 1er mars 2020 . Les candidats seront
informés de leur admission et invités à confirmer leur
participation à la mi-mars. Le texte complet de votre
communication est attendu avant le 15 mai. Vous aurez
l’opportunité de présenter votre travail (10 minutes) et de
commenter le travail d’un.e autre participant.e (10 minutes). Les
communications et les discussions peuvent se faire en français ou
en anglais. Si les doctorants veulent s’associer pour proposer un
panel (deux ou trois présentations par panel), merci d’envoyer
une description avec un titre et vos résumés à
